Using the TTW Rug Pricing Calculator

October 03, 2026

TTW built an online rug pricing calculator, priceyourcraft.com, after years of selling tufted rugs ourselves. Here's how to get the most out of it.

What the Calculator Does

  • Estimates material costs based on your rug's dimensions
  • Calculates yarn requirements so you know exactly how much to order
  • Gives you a baseline price that accounts for your materials
  • Includes an image-upload feature: drop in a picture of your design and it estimates yarn needs by color

What to Add On Top

The calculator handles materials — but your final price should also account for:

  • Your labor: Track your actual hours and multiply by an hourly rate you want to earn
  • Overhead: A portion of your equipment cost, frame, tools, workspace
  • Design time: The hours you spent designing (especially for custom work)
  • Finishing costs: Professional serging or binding, if applicable
  • Platform fees: If selling on Etsy, Shopify, or at markets, account for those cuts

A Realistic Example

A 2' × 3' floor rug might take: $25 in yarn, $8 in cloth, $5 in adhesive and backing = $38 in materials. Add 5 hours of tufting + 1 hour of finishing at $25/hr = $150 in labor. Total: $188 minimum. Most tufters selling quality work price this kind of piece at $200–350, depending on design complexity and their market.

Calculator Pricing and Plans

The TTW Rug Pricing Calculator is free to test, then costs $0.99/month, which helps support ongoing updates. It only takes a few minutes to work out what to charge for your rugs.

The Studio Pro plan adds the image-upload feature. Upload a photo of your rug along with its size, and the calculator tells you how much yarn you need.

Calculating for Knitting Projects

Our pricing site also includes a crochet calculator, which works for knitting projects too.

Currencies, Languages Entering Fabric Cost

  • Currencies: If your currency isn't listed, contact us and we can add it. The whole form will then calculate in your currency.
  • Languages: In your profile settings, you can choose to export PDFs in a variety of languages.
  • Fabric cost: For the fabric dimension and cost fields, enter what you paid for your piece of fabric, including shipping. The calculator charges only for the square meters actually used in the rug.
