Not sure which tufting machine is right for you? Here's a breakdown of every machine we carry, what it does, and who it's best for.
| Machine | Price | Pile Type | Pile Height | Motor | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Duo | from $199 | Cut & Loop | 7–45mm (3 variants) | Electric (Japanese) | Beginners — choose your pile height |
| AK5 | $250 | Cut & Loop | Fixed at 16mm | Electric (Japanese, ultra-quiet) | Beginners who need quiet operation |
| AK-III Industrial | $599 | Cut & Loop high-pile | 20–60mm (adjustable) | Electric + Pneumatic (Japanese) | Advanced tufters, large-format work |
All Tuft the World machines use precision Japanese motors — durable, consistent, and built for long-term use.
Best for: beginners who want pile height flexibility
The Duo is our most popular entry-level machine because it gives you both cut pile and loop pile in one tool, and comes in three pile heights so you can choose the look you want from the start.
Not sure which pile height? Start with Low Pile — it's the most versatile for learning.
Best for: beginners who want a quieter machine with a fixed pile height
The AK5 runs on a Japanese brushless motor that's significantly quieter than most tufting machines. It also features a digital speed dial for precise control and a front-mounted LED light. If you live in an apartment or work in a shared space, the AK5 is worth the extra $50.
Note: The AK5 has a fixed pile height of 16mm for both cut and loop pile. Unlike The Duo, pile height cannot be adjusted on this machine. If pile height flexibility matters to you, choose The Duo instead.
Best for: advanced tufters making large-format or high-pile work
The AK-III is a pneumatic machine, which means it requires an air compressor. The output is unlike anything an electric machine can produce: high-pile shag with adjustable pile heights from 20–60mm. If you're making oversized rugs, commercial work, or deeply textured pieces, the AK-III is the professional's choice.
Every machine requires three things to tuft: a frame, tufting cloth, and yarn. Our Starter Kits bundle the machine, frame, and cloth together — just add yarn.
