The Duo — from $199

Best for: beginners who want pile height flexibility

The Duo is our most popular entry-level machine because it gives you both cut pile and loop pile in one tool, and comes in three pile heights so you can choose the look you want from the start.

  • Low Pile — $199: 7–18 mm. Best for detailed flat rugs, wall hangings, and most beginner projects.
  • Medium Pile — $225: 20–30 mm. More texture and depth — great for accent rugs and a lush finish.
  • High Pile — $260: 35–45 mm. Deep, shaggy output without needing an air compressor.

Not sure which pile height? Start with Low Pile — it's the most versatile for learning.

AK5 — $250

Best for: beginners who want a quieter machine with a fixed pile height

The AK5 runs on a Japanese brushless motor that's significantly quieter than most tufting machines. It also features a digital speed dial for precise control and a front-mounted LED light. If you live in an apartment or work in a shared space, the AK5 is worth the extra $50.

Note: The AK5 has a fixed pile height of 16mm for both cut and loop pile. Unlike The Duo, pile height cannot be adjusted on this machine. If pile height flexibility matters to you, choose The Duo instead.

  • Pile type: cut pile and loop pile (switchable)
  • Pile height: fixed at 16mm (cut and loop)
  • Motor: Japanese brushless — ultra-quiet and exceptionally durable
  • Features: digital speed dial, front LED
  • Best for: home studios, apartments, beginners who want precision

AK-III Industrial — $599

Best for: advanced tufters making large-format or high-pile work

The AK-III is a pneumatic machine, which means it requires an air compressor. The output is unlike anything an electric machine can produce: high-pile shag with adjustable pile heights from 20–60mm. If you're making oversized rugs, commercial work, or deeply textured pieces, the AK-III is the professional's choice.

  • Pile type: cut pile and loop pile shag (high-pile)
  • Pile height: 20–60mm (adjustable via needle swap)
  • Motor: electric + pneumatic (Japanese) — requires air compressor, not included
  • Best for: advanced tufters, large rugs, professional production
  • Not recommended as a first machine

What Else Do You Need?

Every machine requires three things to tuft: a frame, tufting cloth, and yarn. Our Starter Kits bundle the machine, frame, and cloth together — just add yarn.
